In a significant counter-terrorism operation, security forces detained more than 360 individuals in Jammu and Kashmir during overnight raids following the deadly attack in Kulgam district that claimed the life of a retired Army personnel. The large-scale crackdown targeted individuals with suspected terrorist links, with authorities also questioning some of the detainees to prevent future attacks amid intelligence inputs suggesting further threats.
The action comes after former Territorial Army soldier Manzoor Ahmad Wagay was shot dead by terrorists outside his home in the Behibagh area of Kulgam. His wife Aayeena and another family member also sustained injuries in the attack. According to sources, Wagay suffered multiple bullet wounds while trying to protect his niece. The terrorists, allegedly linked to the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, ambushed him as he returned home.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s office condemned the attack, emphasizing that such violence has no place in society. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also expressed his condolences, assuring the public that the perpetrators would face justice. He has directed officials to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism from the region.
