Scindia vs. Congress: The Battle of Royal Allegiances and Historical Accountability

In a fiery political face-off, Jyotiraditya Scindia has ignited a storm after taking sharp aim at Rahul Gandhi’s controversial remarks about the rights of India’s backward classes before independence. Rahul had claimed at a rally in Madhya Pradesh that only kings and maharajas enjoyed rights, while Dalits and tribals were oppressed. This remark didn’t sit well with Scindia, who fired back, telling Rahul to "read history before speaking."

But what followed was far from ordinary—Congress, in true political flair, didn’t just counterattack but unleashed a blistering response. Pawan Khera, Congress’ media head, highlighted Scindia's royal past with biting sarcasm, recalling how the Gwalior royal family enjoyed tax-free money from the government of India until the 1970s. In fact, Scindia’s lineage had been receiving a hefty sum—around Rs 25 lakh in 1950—thanks to the royal privileges they retained post-independence.

Khera’s remarks didn’t stop there. He reminded everyone of the royal families’ allegiance to the British, claiming they were complicit in the darker chapters of India’s colonial history. A particularly pointed moment was when Khera referred to the royal family's pistol being used in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi—a powerful, emotional charge aimed directly at Scindia.

In response, Scindia defended the historical contributions of India’s royal families, including Baroda Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad, who supported Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s education, and Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj, who pioneered the idea of social justice by introducing reservations in 1902. But Congress wasn’t backing down. Khera quoted Jawaharlal Nehru’s strong words in the Constituent Assembly, reminding everyone of the intolerance toward the notion of ruling by "God-given privilege."

The clash between Congress and Scindia’s royal faction is a stunning reminder of India’s rich, often turbulent history. And while both sides play the game of political chess, it’s clear that the royal legacy, the freedom struggle, and the contemporary political narrative are far from settled.

It’s not just a political battle; it’s a reckoning with the past—and the scars still felt today. What do you think? Is it time to re-evaluate the legacy of royal families, or are some parts of history better left untouched?

Shashi Tharoor Admits Misjudgment on India’s Neutral Stance in Russia-Ukraine War

Congress leader and Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor has publicly acknowledged that he was mistaken in opposing India’s neutral stance on the Russia-Ukraine war when it first erupted in 2022. Speaking at the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi on Tuesday during a session titled ‘Waging Peace: Looking Back to Look Ahead’ , Tharoor candidly admitted that India’s diplomatic approach has, in hindsight, positioned the country as a potential peacemaker on the global stage. "An Egg on My Face" – Tharoor’s Honest Reflection "I am still wiping the egg off my face because I am one person in the parliamentary debate who actually criticized the Indian position at the time back in February 2022," Tharoor confessed. At the time, he had strongly condemned Russia’s military actions, advocating that India should denounce the aggression based on principles of the UN Charter, the sovereignty of Ukraine, and the inviolability of international borders . However, with three years of g...

Delhi High Court Denies Maintenance to Educated Wife: A Landmark Ruling

In a recent judgment, the Delhi High Court held that a well-educated woman, capable of earning a living, should not remain unemployed just to claim maintenance from her husband. The ruling came in response to a revision petition filed by a woman challenging a family court’s 2022 decision that denied her interim maintenance. The Court’s Stand on Maintenance Justice Chandra Dhari Singh stated that Section 125 of the CrPC aims to protect dependent spouses, children, and parents but does not encourage idleness. He asserted that women with professional qualifications and work experience should make efforts to become financially independent rather than relying on alimony. The court upheld the family court’s decision, noting that the petitioner had a Master’s degree in International Business from the University of Wollongong, Australia , which demonstrated her capability to earn. Furthermore, she had previously worked in Dubai as an Audit Associate at KPMG and later as an HR Manage...
