ISRO’s 100th Mission: A Historic Leap for India’s Space Ambitions

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is poised to achieve a monumental milestone with the countdown for its 100th mission officially underway. Set to launch on January 29, this historic event will see ISRO’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-F15) carrying the NVS-02 satellite into orbit, marking a new chapter in India's growing space capabilities.

The countdown for this mission began early on Tuesday, with the 27.5-hour countdown initiating at 2:53 am. The launch will take place at 6:23 am on Wednesday from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. This mission will also be the first under the leadership of ISRO’s newly appointed Chairman, V. Narayanan, who took office on January 13, 2025. It is an exciting time for the agency as it reaches this historic milestone while under the guidance of its new head.

The NVS-02 Satellite: A Step Toward Global Navigation Excellence

The NVS-02 satellite, a vital component in ISRO’s ambitious Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) project, is designed to provide highly accurate position, velocity, and timing data not only for India but also for areas extending 1,500 kilometers beyond the Indian subcontinent. This satellite marks the second in a series of second-generation satellites, following the successful launch of NVS-01 in May 2023.

NavIC is India’s regional satellite navigation system, similar to the U.S. Global Positioning System (GPS), but tailored to provide precise and reliable service in the Indian region. The NVS-02 satellite is equipped with advanced features, including navigation payloads in L1, L5, and S bands and a ranging payload in C-band. These features will enhance the accuracy and reliability of India’s space-based navigation services.

Weighing 2,250 kg, the NVS-02 will help augment the NavIC system, which includes a constellation of five second-generation satellites. This upgrade is crucial for ensuring the continuity of high-quality navigation services, vital for a wide range of sectors such as terrestrial, aerial, and maritime navigation, precision agriculture, fleet management, mobile-based location services, Internet of Things (IoT) applications, and emergency response services.

A Vision for the Future

ISRO’s 100th mission signifies more than just technical prowess—it showcases India’s growing stature as a space power and its dedication to advancing technology for public welfare. From launching satellites for communication and Earth observation to developing navigation systems and interplanetary missions, ISRO’s achievements continue to inspire millions globally.

As the NVS-02 satellite embarks on its journey into space, ISRO stands at the threshold of even greater accomplishments. With future missions planned for lunar exploration, interplanetary studies, and the continued expansion of the NavIC system, the Indian space agency is determined to leave a lasting mark on the global space arena.

With this historic mission, ISRO has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing India’s space ambitions, providing essential services to millions and contributing to the global effort of making space exploration more inclusive, accessible, and beneficial for all.

Shashi Tharoor Admits Misjudgment on India’s Neutral Stance in Russia-Ukraine War

Congress leader and Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor has publicly acknowledged that he was mistaken in opposing India’s neutral stance on the Russia-Ukraine war when it first erupted in 2022. Speaking at the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi on Tuesday during a session titled ‘Waging Peace: Looking Back to Look Ahead’ , Tharoor candidly admitted that India’s diplomatic approach has, in hindsight, positioned the country as a potential peacemaker on the global stage. "An Egg on My Face" – Tharoor’s Honest Reflection "I am still wiping the egg off my face because I am one person in the parliamentary debate who actually criticized the Indian position at the time back in February 2022," Tharoor confessed. At the time, he had strongly condemned Russia’s military actions, advocating that India should denounce the aggression based on principles of the UN Charter, the sovereignty of Ukraine, and the inviolability of international borders . However, with three years of g...

British MP Wera Hobhouse Denied Entry to Hong Kong: A Diplomatic Incident with No Explanation

In a deeply troubling turn of events, British Member of Parliament (MP) Wera Hobhouse was denied entry to Hong Kong while on a personal trip to visit her newborn grandson and son. "Authorities gave me no explanation for this cruel and upsetting blow," Hobhouse said, expressing her frustration over the situation. The incident has garnered significant attention in the UK, with British officials voicing their concerns over what they perceive as a politically motivated move. Foreign Minister David Lammy expressed his distress over the matter, emphasizing that the British government would seek answers from both Hong Kong and Chinese authorities. "It is deeply concerning to hear that an MP on a personal trip has been refused entry to Hong Kong," Lammy said. "We will urgently raise this with the authorit...

Delhi High Court Denies Maintenance to Educated Wife: A Landmark Ruling

In a recent judgment, the Delhi High Court held that a well-educated woman, capable of earning a living, should not remain unemployed just to claim maintenance from her husband. The ruling came in response to a revision petition filed by a woman challenging a family court’s 2022 decision that denied her interim maintenance. The Court’s Stand on Maintenance Justice Chandra Dhari Singh stated that Section 125 of the CrPC aims to protect dependent spouses, children, and parents but does not encourage idleness. He asserted that women with professional qualifications and work experience should make efforts to become financially independent rather than relying on alimony. The court upheld the family court’s decision, noting that the petitioner had a Master’s degree in International Business from the University of Wollongong, Australia , which demonstrated her capability to earn. Furthermore, she had previously worked in Dubai as an Audit Associate at KPMG and later as an HR Manage...
